So this was fun... This was one of those projects that had been at the back of my mind for awhile and I had been waiting for the right class and time to try it.
Our unit of study was exploring animals and their similarities and differences with humans. I was interested in having the students explore ways of abstracting animals to look at their forms, textures and shapes.
The process for making a squish print is simple:
- apply tempera paint to a stuffed animal
- carefully press the stuffed animal onto a sheet of paper
- repeat
There was some trepidation as student applied paint for the first time and made their print, but once they were going it was hard to stop them.
It was great to see how the shapes and forms were distorted. Students really engaged with experimenting how different sides and parts of the stuffed dolls would create different marks.
